Description

Artist from Dafen in China visited Vienna to copy „The Kiss“ of one of his favourite artists Gustav Klimt. More information – see below:

The painter Gan Xiu Chun has been studying Klimt for years. He’s from the artist village of Dafen in China. Five million replicas of paintings are produced annually there, mostly from well-known artists. Vienna and Dafen have one thing in common: their love for Gustav Klimt.

Gan Xiu Chun is specialised in the style of the Grand Master of Art Nouveau. He knows every one of his idol’s brushstrokes almost by heart.

We invited him to Vienna to immerse himself into the world of Gustav Klimt. Here he got the unique opportunity not only to see Klimt’s best-known painting „The Kiss“ up close, but also to create a replica right in front of it.
The trip to Vienna gave Gan Xiu the chance to trace Klimt’s aura, to discover the city where the artist lived, worked and died.
